March 22nd, 2020
So I found out Covid was "real" as I was in the office at my new job getting ready for a weekend of Frozen Dead Guy Days in 2020. The event was canceled 24 hours in advance and shut downs and work from home was happening immediately. I had been planning within the next week or two to play an open mic just to get in front of folks with a guitar for the first time since I moved to Colorado in January 2019.
Something about being stuck at home for an unforeseeable amount of time made me think I gotta play streaming cause it's all that's left. This was the first of those shows, and this was less than 10 days from the shut down. I was already starting to think about more shows after and what I might play. Since an open mic would have been just me and an acoustic that's how this started. I did test it out with just a web cam initially and the sound was all phased and weird, so I found a way to get a stage mic through usb for the sound and it was a little better, not a lot. It's amateur at it's best, sometimes worse, but if you're following Dr Wippit at all, you know.....
I was a little surprised that a few friends "showed up" and dropped comments throughout. It really did feel a bit like a show. I had to commit to keeping it going, we're all stuck at home together after all.
The song list was pretty close to what I would have played at an open mic, without the three or four song limit there's a couple of more. Four out of the ten songs were originals, and six covers that I already new and just like playing. Here's the list:
Irish Ballad - Dr Wippit
Shadow Dancing - Andy Gibb
In Color - Jamey Johnson
Be Here Now - Dr Wippit
Meadow - Dr Wippit
Something More Than Free - Jason Isbell
Say You Do - Dierks Bentley
Kiss Off - Violent Femmes
For Everyone - Dr Wippit
Baby It's You - Beatles version
